Poseidon-Underwater-Hotel (2)

Hydropolis Hotel in Dubai

The Hydropolis Underwater Hotel and Resort is going to be the first submarine luxury resort when it opens its doors by 2010. Designed by Prof. Roland Dieterle, this masterpiece of the Dubai Real Estate has also feathered its cap with the honor of being the first 10-star hotel on the globe.

Location

This magnum opus is situated 66 ft. below the surface of the Persian Gulf just off Jumeirah Beach in Dubai.

Construction

Its Plexiglas walls and bubble shaped dome ceilings which are defended by steel and concrete enable the guests to experience the beautiful view of fishes and other sea creatures. The structure of the hotel is prominently bifurcated into three sections. The guests are welcomed at the land section. There is a connecting tunnel which transports the people to the main vicinity of the hotel though a train and the leisure complex comprising of 220 suites within the submarine. The whole project covers an area of 260 hectares and will cost approximately £300 million altogether.

Design

Hydropolis is a reproduction of the human organism in an architectural design by Joachim Hauser, the developer and designer of the hotel. His passion for water and the sea led to the original idea of Hydropolis. A direct analogy is observed between the architecture and the physiology of man. The figure of eight inscribed in a circle and lying on its side is the additional geometrical element. The spaces in the basins comprise of restaurants, bars, rooms and suites. These seem to be the representation of the human body in which the nervous and cardiovascular systems function and the pulse of life is represented.

In order to provide utmost resistance against not only the pressure of the sea but also the occasional typhoon, the design of the hotel is curved. The hotel itself is shaped in the form of bubbles for the same cause.

Burj Al Arab- Masterpiece as The Seven Star Hotel

November 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

BurjRoom_gallery__470x326

Burj Al Arab

Leaving behind the spark of a five star hotel or a luxury hotel, Dubai has a seven star hotel, Burj Al Arab which has surpassed the definition of being ‘Sumptuous’. This masterpiece is envied by most of the top notch hotels of the region for its celebrity status in hospitality industry throughout the world.

Location

The Burj Al Arab is located on an artificial island which is 280 m from Jumeirah Beach. It is connected to the main land through a private curved bridge.

Architecture

The construction of the hotel 1,090 ft high started in 1994 and was completed in 2000. This iconic structure was designed to imitate the sail of the boat and to signify Dubai’s urban transformation. Designed by Tom Wright, the building resembles the sail of a dhow which is a type of Arabian vessel. The synonymous of the city, Burj Al Arab has two wings spread in a V to articulate a vast mast. The space between them is enclosed in a colossal porch. The architect and engineering consultant for the project was UK’s largest consultancy, Atkins.

Features

The features of Burj Al Arab required multifarious engineering accomplishments to be achieved. Since the building rests on an artificial island built 280m offshore, the builders drove 23040m long concrete piles into sand to secure a foundation. The foundation is further protected from erosion through the creation of a surface layer of large rocks looped with a concrete honeycomb pattern. It had taken three years to retrieve the land from the sea.

The atrium inside the building is 590 ft tall.

Restaurants

Al Muntaha

Located 660 ft. above the Persian Gulf, the restaurant offers a ecstatic view of Dubai. The main chef, Edah Semahj Leachim owns the restaurant in agreement with the hotel.

Al Mahara

Conde Nast Traveler voted the restaurant among the top ten best restaurants of the world. It features a huge seawater aquarium.
